Salivary Gland Surgery in Hertfordshire

Surgical treatment of parotid lumps, submandibular gland disease and salivary duct stones.

Hertfordshire patients undergoing salivary gland surgery are consulted and operated on at Spire Bushey (WD23 1CE) — a 15-minute drive from Watford Junction. Complex parotid cases requiring pre-operative MRI are imaged on-site; sialendoscopy for salivary duct stones can be performed as a day-case procedure.

About salivary gland surgery

The parotid gland (in front of the ear) and submandibular gland (under the jaw) can both develop benign tumours (pleomorphic adenoma, Warthin's tumour), inflammatory conditions (chronic sialadenitis, IgG4 disease), stones (sialolithiasis), and — less commonly — malignant tumours. Diagnosis combines ultrasound, MRI where indicated, and fine-needle aspiration cytology. Treatment ranges from sialendoscopy (a keyhole procedure using a 1.3mm scope passed up the duct to remove stones) to superficial or total parotidectomy with continuous facial nerve monitoring. Mr Farook always uses intraoperative facial nerve monitoring for parotid surgery.
